Fiery crash kills 1, injures two in West Volusia

A 21-year-old woman is dead and two people are injured after a crash in rural Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Authorities aren't sure what time the crash occurred, but believe it was sometime after 12 a.m.

Troopers said a Chevy SUV was headed west on County Road 305 when the driver traveled off the road and onto the shoulder. Both were in serious condition, troopers said.

The SUV was westbound on County Road 305.

62-year old Sharon Ruth Loy was traveling south on Mary Esther Cutoff in her 2013 Chevrolet Sonic when an unknown person driving a white newer pickup truck traveling east on Page Bacon Road collided with Loy and left the scene.

The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times before bursting into flames, according to the crash report.

Emergency workers arrived on scene to find Alamos walking from the burning vehicle carrying Gastelum after he called 9-1-1, Montes said.
