The Dane, 21, cost Blues victory against Barcelona on Tuesday when his pass across the backline helped Leo Messi end his duck against them.

The Chelsea youngster apologised after the draw.

Conte has a wealth of options at his disposal in central defence but Christensen has often been called upon this season, with it being thought that the youngster is ahead of David Luiz in the pecking order.

"I know I made a mistake, but there is not much else to do than to learn from it and make sure it doesn't happen again".

During your career you can make a lot of mistakes. His performance was wonderful.

"I trust him and I think he is the present player for Chelsea and future for ten years and can be the captain for Chelsea in the future". He can also become the captain of this team in the future'.

After a positive showing against Barcelona, Conte and his men now prepare to face Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.

Chelsea FC are now in fourth place in the Premier League table this season as they chase Champions League qualification under Antonio Conte in his second campaign in charge at the club.

The Blues beat United 1-0 at home earlier in the season but Conte played down how big an achievement a league double would be. However, Conte was quick to downplay his achievement, he said, "I consider a great achievement if you are able to win something after a season".

'You need to try to get the win, this is very important for the mentality. "You don't have a great mentality".

Christensen has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea line-up this term, making 31 of his 34 appearances in all competitions for the west London side this the season. He matured a lot in his time in the Bundesliga.

Antonio Conte heaped praises on the Danish defender on Friday, saying, "If I had to talk about all the mistakes I made in my career, we'd have to be here for one day".
