Here's why Kate Middleton didn't wear black at BAFTAs

Apparently, she's also can't wear black as the women of the royal family wear black mostly at the time of mourning.

Prince William, an avid film buff who is president of the British Film Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is inspiring Prince George as the pair bond over the latest releases. Middleton, whose look was reminiscent of the inky-blue Jenny Packham gown she donned for the dinner in NY, finished her look with her Prada wavy cut-out suede heels and a Pretty Ballerinas clutch bag.

Female Bafta attendees were encouraged to follow the lead of this year's Golden Globes and wear all-black in a protest against sex assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace.

Kate Middleton might be known as a fashion inspiration, but not everyone is a fan of her latest look.

One Twitter user wrote: "Disappointed in Kate Middleton Duchess of Cambridge not wearing black to the Baftas". While it was expected that the winners and speeches would steal the limelight, a heavily pregnant Kate Middleton was the show stealer of the event. Some called her boring, out of touch, disrespectful to people who have suffered and even criticised her for looking knackered - um, she's doing pretty well considering she's now pregnant.

Many women sported Time's Up pins and quite a few of the men were more loyal than the king (queen?) and even wore black shirts.

Stars like Game of Thrones alum, Natalie Dormer, Salma Hayek, Saoirse Ronan, and Angelina Jolie also attended.

Kate has made a point to support women's issues in her royal work around mental health and motherhood. We must cut Middleton a break, the Royal Family never takes a stance on anything political.

"Royals can't make a political statement - keeping impartial". The expectant mother looked divine in a floor-length dark green gown by Jenny Packham, while William put on a handsome display in a tailored tux. "Wearing black would have gone against royal protocol", he adds.

Kate, 36, was overheard at a post-BAFTAs ceremony meet and greet on Monday night chatting about her son's love of movies and how it was shared by her husband.
