Comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passes away

Well-known Telugu comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao died early on Monday in Hyderabad, The Hindu reported.

The actor was suffering from heart and kidney ailments.

The actor went on to work in almost 400 films including Pellaniki Premalekha Priyuraliki Subhalekha, Rajendradu Gajendradu, Mayaloodu, Nenu Seetamahalakshmi, Kedi No 1, Apparao Driving School, Kalyanam and Original. Gundu Hanumanth Rao had been receiving support from Move Artists Association (MAA) lately due to his financial situation.

Many film and TV actors visited Rao's residence and expressed their condolences to his family.

Gundu Hanumantha Rao also forayed into the TV industry with hit sitcom Amrutham, which was telecast on Gemini TV between 2001 and 2007. "I believed it only after Hanumantha Rao's brother called me this morning".

Born on October 10, 1956, in Vijayawada, Hanumantha Rao made his acting debut with Satyagraham (1987), but got his first break as a comedian in late director Jandhyala's Aha Naa Pellanta (1987).

He acted films like Babai Hotel, Pekata Paparao, Allari Alludu, Mayalodu, Shubhlagnam, Criminal, Annamayya, Samarasimha reddy and others.

Hanumantha Rao is quite popular for his role in Amrutham tele serial which went on to be one of the successful TV shows. Gundu Hanumantha Rao has received many awards and rewards.

Gundu Hanumantha Rao is known for his performance in movies like Rajendradu Gajendradu, Kalyanam, Mayaloodu, Jodi No 1, Nenu Seetamahalakshmi, Kedi No.1, Apparao Driving School, Original, Neramu Siksha, High School, Kothoka Vintha, Colors, Panchamukhi, Sri Sai Sankalpam and Mano Balam. The final homage will be done at Erragadda burial grounds.
