Classmates detained after Delhi police find dead pupil in school toilet

Another shameful incident took place that a Class 9 student who was found unconscious in the washroom of a school in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar died after he was taken to a government hospital on Thursday, police said.

As per reports, three people have been detained in connection with the death of the boy at Jeevan Jyoti school in Delhi's Khajuri Khas.

According to Mr Singla, some school students have told the police that they found Tushar lying in a state of unconsciousness in the toilet.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Singla said, "During the questioning of those boys, it emerged that Tushar was punched by three of his classmates in the toilet". School authorities and the victim's mother shifted him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

"Based on the admissions of the apprehended boys as well as the CCTV footage, we have dropped the provision of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and added section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code", said Singla.

The school's management, on the other hand, claimed that Tushar was allegedly suffering from diarrhoea and fell unconscious, which led to his death.

Tusshar is a resident of Karawal Nagar.

Singla stated that no visible injuries were found on Kumar's body when he was found by the police on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased student protested on the Karwal Nagar intersection, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter. The police have registered the matter and are now questioning the fellow students. Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra said that he is monitoring the situation and is in touch with the police and hospital authorities.

Family members of the deceased alleged that he was thrashed by the students.

After examination by the medical board, the body will be sent for the post-mortem.
