Women unnecessarily suffering from heart disease due to lack of research

Heart disease has claimed the lives of almost 500,000 American women each year.

The Titans are supporting Saint Thomas Heart and the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement that helps raise awareness of the threat of heart disease in women.

"Heart disease is the leading cause of premature death for women in Canada, yet women's hearts are still vastly misunderstood", said foundation CEO Yves Savoie in a report released Thursday.

Area restaurants are joining Christiana Care Health System to celebrate Wear Red Day, Friday, February 2.

What: Here's your chance to walk through a giant inflatable heart and show your audience and readers how it works. The statement it makes is: "Heart Disease Doesn't Care What You Wear-It's the #1 Killer of Women". Women can participate in workshops to learn more about living a healthy lifestyle and learning the signs and symptoms of heart attacks or strokes. Both men and women who are wearing red are eligible to receive the free menu item. One woman will die every 80 seconds because of cardiovascular disease.

The good news is many cardiovascular diseases may be prevented by knowing your family heath history, knowing your numbers such as blood pressure and cholesterol and making simple lifestyle changes with diet and exercise. The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement is nationally sponsored by Macy's and CVS Health, with additional support from our cause supporters.
