The man, thought to be 54-year-old Bill Billingham, is critically ill in hospital with a stab wound to the stomach.

Just an hour before the events took place, Billingham posted a photo on Facebook of his daughter smiling in bed.

What has left Billingham's friends, family and neighbors reeling is that just minutes after posting the photo of Mylee, whom Billingham reportedly doted on and lovingly called "moo", authorities say the young girl was stabbed to death, The Sun reported.

Mylee died in hospital after she was discovered badly wounded at an address in Brownhills, near Walsall, on Saturday night.

Shocked neighbours have described hearing Mylee's mum Tracey Taundry outside the property on Saturday night screaming: "They stabbed my baby".

The schoolgirl later died in hospital.

And Billingham, 54, is suspected of killing her.

Tonight, Mark Billingham said: "Please respect my family's privacy".

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are still at the early stages of understanding exactly what happened and why - but I can confirm we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation". I'd never seen a woman or child there.

He said: "Everyone at the school is completely devastated. You can't imagine it happening on our doorstep, especially when it's a little girl".

'We have hardly slept and are just trying to understand and process what has happened.

"There were about 15 to 20 police cars and about 5 ambulances blocking off the whole road, so I looked out last night I saw the stretchers being taken out to the ambulances".

Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: "I only knew the guy to say hello to and I think he was married and was living there on his own".

But he said he did not know the current occupant.

"I didn't hear anything before the police got here".

Mr Billingham remains in hospital where he is thought to be receiving treatment for stab wounds to the abdomen. This is a lovely area and it's so shocking that it's happened here'.

Graham Greatrex, 74, told how emergency services rushed to the quiet street at 9.15pm. I'm shell shocked to be honest.

"We had an incident in Brownhills West a year ago when someone drove into an ambulance and you think something horrific like that is a one off".

Bob Weir, who lives two doors away from the bungalow where the stabbing happened, said he had initially thought the incident was drug-related. A postmortem examination was scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon to establish the precise cause of the girl's death.
