The United Arab Emirates' military forces have been instructed not to escalate an ongoing diplomatic crisis with neighbouring Qatar, an Emirati military official has said.

Translation: The Louvre Abu Dhabi is lying and deliberately spreading misinformation when it drew a map and entered the whole of the governorate of Musandam into UAE territory!

He said the UAE military aircraft have switched to alternative routes over Saudi Arabia to avoid future incidents of interception by Qatar.

In a rare briefing about its operations, Brig Gen Helal Al Qubaisi of the UAE Armed Forces said a Qatari jet approached a UAE F-16 on December 27 previous year.

Qatar said the UAE allegation followed incidents on December 21 and January 3 in which it accused UAE military aircraft of violating its airspace.

The military incidents add to regional tension between Qatar and the UAE.

Calling it a desperate act by Qatar, the Brigadier General said, "Qatar is under tremendous pressure - politically, economically and socially".

Last summer, the UAE - along with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain - abruptly severed ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups in the region. They want the Coalition countries to come to the table and negotiate with them.

The general condemned what he said was "aggressive action" by Qatar.
