Kompany was forced off injured after just 11 minutes against Newcastle on December 11 at St James Park and he is still building up his fitness, while Delph injured his knee in City's 4-3 defeat at Liverpool last weekend.

"The players and the managers decide what's best".

Guardiola said he would "look for another solution", with the Manchester City board expected to back his pursuit of an elite level alternative to the Manchester United-bound Alexis Sanchez in the summer - but not one who will earn half a million pound each week.

"[Vincent is] much better. We don't know right now (if he will be fit for Newcastle) but hopefully for the next games, he will be ready". We've had that all season because we chose to go with one left back.

"Immediately we have a problem".

Speaking at a press conference, the Spaniard said: "It's not the first time it happened in my career, that I wanted a player and they made a decision to move on to another club".

"We don't know what exactly is going to happen there but to use world like he is a "mercenary" and that he has 'sacrificed everything, ' like morals, principles and trophies, I think it goes a little bit beyond insulting. It was a pleasure to be with him in Barcelona - I wish him all the best".

"We're looking for nice people to join us".

To put into perspective the risk City would have taken meeting Alexis' demands, Kevin De Bruyne is reported to be close to signing a £200,000-a-week contract extension, most likely one that could rise above that with bonuses. The players and their managers (agents) decide where they want to play.

"It is great news for the club to have both Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho with us at the Club for the future".
