Ford is looking to accelerate its push into the electric vehicle market as it struggles to keep up with rivals´ efforts.

Tax cuts could boost pickup truck sales because businesses can write off the expenses immediately under the new code, Lentz said.

We're starting to telegraph where we're going to play in electrified business around the world, and that is to electrify iconic nameplates, and it's going to be higher transaction-price vehicles.

At this week's Detroit auto show, Ford's president of global markets Jim Farley presented the carmaker's plan of shelling out $11 billion to introduce 40 EVs to the market by 2022.

Ford eliminated the Ranger compact truck from its US lineup in 2011 because, it said, customers weren't interested enough in small trucks to sustain the business.

In ongoing negotiations with Mexico and Canada, the Trump administration is seeking to ensure that more vehicles are made in America, among other changes.

But Toyota's Lentz said there are limits to the trend of making cars bigger.

Ford company, one of American major automakers, will be adjusting its vehicle production rates to meet the preferences of buyers in the U.S., Ford CEO Jim Hackett revealed.

Ford's additional investments in electric vehicles contrasted with numerous vehicle launches at the Detroit show which featured trucks and SUVs.

"The automakers know people who buy them are very loyal, they tend to buy the same on next time". It will go on sale in the US this spring starting at about $200,000.

Automakers are hedging their bets when it comes to autonomous vehicles and whether they will someday cut into or even end personal auto ownership.

Henderson also speaks with Craig Hoff, dean of the college of engineering at Kettering University, which is home to an industry-standard autonomous vehicle proving ground in Flint.

"We will see whether demand will drive our (electric vehicle) sales or whether we will all be trying to catch the last customer out there", Zetsche said. Not only does it mean that a dealers are more likely to have "the right" vehicle on the lot when a customer walks in the door, it means that tough-to-sell combinations could be a thing of the past. "We do not have a gun to our head", Marchionne said.

One of the new variations will be the LT Trailboss aimed at off-roaders. "Two, trucks sell for a very high average price, pickup trucks averaging about $47,000 compare that to about $31,000 for all cars in general", Cooley said. The faded green auto got a huge cheer when it rumbled onto the stage.
