Ahead of the auction set to take place on January 27 and 28, Dhoni spoke about a range of issues concerning the CSK franchise. However, the former India captain also went to say that he had no qualms about returning to the yellow brigade as CSK has always been his second home with the huge love showered upon him by the fans.

"A lot of people approached me, I can tell you that. With Ashwin coming in you would want a local lad in the side", Dhoni said. He also said they will try their best to get Ashwin onboard. To win a Test match you need 20 wickets and we have taken 20 wickets. They accept me as one of their own. There can't be a bigger compliment than that.

Mr Dhoni emphasised that although he has been approached by other franchises, CSK is close to his heart and he can't think of not playing for them.

He added: "He [wicketkeeper] is somebody who is in the position where he watches the game very closely". With Ashwin we can not use the RTM as we have already got three Indian players retained.

The team, which is keen to get back its core team, has already retained Mahendra Singh Dhoni as captain, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. "You look at the other players that we have got and then we can go for someone else because it gives the stability to the side", he said. He will come first in the auction.

After having spent most of his worldwide career and IPL career as captain, Dhoni also had to take a backseat at the now-defunct IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) previous year after Steve Smith replaced him as the skipper. A PTI report quoted Dhoni speaking at a event where he said that the team management will definitely aim to back the local boy Ashwin. "We will try to get him", he said. That other teams were interested in his signature is far from surprising but Dhoni opted to return to Chennai and will be hoping to make the most of his decision and help his side claim their third IPL title. "Yes, it did hurt when the team was suspended for two years", the wicketkeeper-batsman said. We don't know what margins to go for or what are the extremities. Even when we did not play in the IPL in the last two years, the fan base increased.
