Snapped in black-and-white, the photo features the "Baywatch" star posing for a mugshot as Ted in an empty studio space, and his resemblance to the infamous serial killer is uncanny. Another tweeted in response to Efron's post, "Zac is about to be TED BUNDY!"

Zac Efron has shared the first picture of him in his latest role as American serial killer Ted Bundy for new flick Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile. The caption read: "Meet Ted".

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will be produced by Nicholas Chartier and Ara Keshishian for Voltage and Michael Costigan for Cota Films.

He was arrested for aggravtated kidnap and attempted criminal assault in 1975, but while facing murder charges in Colorado managed to escape from jail twice - while on the run, he carried out further assaults, including three more murders.

Production on the film, which is director by Joe Berlinger, is set to start today, but as yet no release date has been given.

His confessed deeds span between 1974 and 1978, in seven states.

Collins, the 28-year-old actress who recently starred in Netflix's To the Bone and Okja, joins Efron as Elizabeth Kloepfer, the girlfriend of Ted Bundy who was none the wiser to his unspeakable actions during the height of his criminality. Lily Collins will portray Elizabeth in the movie.

Sharing the first look of his new character, Zac simply writes "Meet ted". After years of trial it was she who turned Bundy in.

Bundy chose to represent himself at the trial, which was broadcast on national television, and appeared to develop something of a rapport with the judge.

Bundy was executed in 1989 for his crimes.

We wish Efron, Berlinger and collins all the entire team all the luck.
