Five wrestlers die in Sangli accident

In a road mishap which occurred on Kadegaon-Sangli road, had killed 6 people, among them five were wrestlers. World champion powerlifter Saksham Yadav, along with four other powerlifters, was travelling in a auto last Sunday, when the vehicle met with an accident near the Singhu border in outer Delhi's Alipur area.

. The SUV in which the wrestlers were travelling, rammed into a tractor carrying sugarcane.

The wrestlers were returning from a tournament in Pune's Satara district. All the wrestlers practiced at Kranti wrestling center at Sangli.

The wrestlers were from the Kranti Kushti Sankul institution, which has dominated the state championships in recent years, and were expected to make the grade for Nationals soon.

A police officer from Chinchni-Vangi police station said, "We have registered a case against the unidentified absconding accused under section 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC, along with section 279, 337, 338 pertaining to rash driving, causing hurt and causing grievous hurt respectively".

Moreover, investigation is also underway to nab the tractor driver who fled from the accident spot.

A return journey back home after participating in a wrestling competition proved costly for wrestlers in Sangli as five wrestlers and a driver lost lives and seven wrestlers sustained serious injuries after their vehicle hit a tractor in Kadegaon in Sangli.

The accident comes days after five powerlifters were killed in a vehicle accident in Delhi.

The accident happened around 1 in the night.
