Fire breaks out at Mumbai airport's domestic terminal, fire tenders on site

The Mumbai Fire Brigade on Saturday quickly brought under control a fire that broke out at a lounge in the airport's domestic terminal 1B, Chief Fire Officer Prabhat Rahangdale said. "The the fire was under control by then".

On January 4, seven shops were gutted after a massive fire broke out at Reay Road in the city; days after a blaze at Kamala Mills compound claimed 14 lives on December 29. The entire ceiling of the room came down.

While no injuries were reported, Public Service Enterprise Group was forced to temporarily cut power to the terminal and use backup generators as the company repairs any damage caused by the fire. By 2:41 p.m. the fire was declared as Level III as it had spread through the ground plus one structure. The fire was doused at 3.18 pm; President Kovind passed through the gate at 3.30 pm. She clarified that the fire had not hampered other airport operations in any way.

According to a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson, flight operations were not affected due to the fire.
