Former American President Barack Obama concluded his year 2017 by disclosing his reading list which included Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid's latest work Exit West.

The politician sparked a tradition when seated in the White House of sharing the music and books that had inspired him during the year.

Like clockwork, Obama took to Facebook on New Year's Day to share his musical highlights.

Obama writes that he wanted to continue the tradition he stared during his presidency of sharing his reading and playlists.

Following a festive finish to 2017 that included Christmas caroling and an adorable family photo, Barack Obama was feeling sentimental and shared his favorite books and songs from 2017.

His books list includes "Grant", by Ron Chernow, "Exit West", by Moshin Hamid, "Anything is Possible", by Elizabeth Strout and Amy Goldstein's "Janesville: An American Story". The Man's "Feel It Still" and Harry Styles' "Sign of the Times".

Obama is soon to join the ranks of writers, as CNN reports that he and his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, have both been writing. The list bounces along a wide range of genres from pop, Camila Cabello's Young Thug featured track, "Havana", to classic funk and soul with "Matter of Time" by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, what is labeled as "world music" with "La Dame et Ses Valises" by Les Amazones d'Afrique feat.
