Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low near 9 degrees.

In western MA, the heaviest rain is expected Friday afternoon. "We're going to ride this storm out until it's done".

The T is also preparing for the rains by clearing storm drains and catch basins and posting portable pumps in flood-prone areas, and crews will check system pumps both before and during the rain, according to the statement. By Patriots game time at 8:15 p.m.in Foxborough on Saturday, the precipitation will have stopped, but temperatures will remain in the 20s. At Bridgeport, the temp was just a degree shy of the record at 12p.

"It's a little complicated, quite a bit messy, but the impacts are still pretty clear as far as hazardous driving conditions through Saturday morning".

Flood Watch for the entire area until 7 PM Saturday.

Ice accumulations would vary, Casey said, with up to 1/10 inch of ice possible in the Northern Panhandle. Temperatures will make a run at the records (which were set previous year in both Boston and Worcester). The record high for Bridgeport is 55 degrees, set a year ago in 2017.

"Still looking at widespread rainfall leading to urban, poor drainage flooding as well as some river flooding", the service said Thursday evening on Twitter. Since the ground is frozen, water could seep into basements that are prone to flooding.

"The transition from rain to the ice will be tricky", he said.

It's only been a week since flood waters rushed in faster than most people can remember.

Recent warmth may cause some of the snow partially melt near the ground and cling to trees and power lines, according to AccuWeather.com.

Any untreated surfaces will quickly ice over during Saturday as a rapid drop in temperatures occurs. Temperatures will fall below freezing by 3 a.m. Saturday.

SATURDAY: Rain ends in the morning.

The winter weather advisory cautions travelers to prepare for slippery roads throughout MA on Saturday, as a flash freeze will quickly turn water and slush into ice. Some partial clearing is possible during the afternoon as a gusty north or northwesterly makes it feel even colder as the temperature steadily drops. The overnight low is expected around 12 degrees, according to the Weather Service forecast for the Genesee Valley. While not almost as harsh as our last cold outbreak, we are likely in for another stretch of several days below freezing (Sunday into next week). South wind 5 to 10 miles per hour becoming southwest in the afternoon. Sunday night will be very cold.

Both Sunday and Monday look like dry and cold days. With a brisk south wind, moisture is being pumped into the region. There will be some lingering snow showers on Thursday.

Get ready for a 43-degree swing in temperatures.

Today's rain is expected to transition into a wintery mix around midnight and into snow later.

Thursday saw a high around 60 degrees, but that was expected to give way to a low of around 20 degrees with wind gusts as high as 31 miles per hour. Day, a holiday throughout the area. Despite the powerful wind, there weren't a tremendous number of power outages.
