Earlier in the day, Walmart had cited the sweeping Republican tax overhaul that will save it money in announcing the higher hourly wages, one-time bonuses and expanded parental benefits that will affect more than a million hourly workers in the U.S.

Stores that are converted will turn into regional distribution centers or e-commerce facilities.

Walmart says that after the closings it will have 597 clubs.

Sam's Club, a division of retail giant Walmart, has announced the closure of 63 of its locations.

Customers packed into the Dover Sam's Club on Friday, relieved the membership wholesaler was still open after so many other locations had been closed. Sam's Club sales and performance has been steadily declining for the past few years as Walmart's presence in ecommerce has grown. "We need to make sure we have the right mix".

In addition, the company's legal name will become Walmart Inc. effective February 1 to reflect its growing status as an omni-channel retailer.

Garcia said the company doesn't know yet where all those centers will be.

Sam's Club member Sarah Espinoza said she'll miss the store as she enjoys shopping at both Costco and Sam's Club.

"Transforming our business means managing our real estate portfolio and Walmart needs a strong fleet of Sam's Clubs that are fit for the future", Sam's Club CEO John Furner said in a statement. He told a News-Miner reporter at the Sam's location that there were no major problems, just a "handful" of vehicle crashes.

Several other states where CNNMoney has confirmed stores will be closing did not have such notices posted as of Thursday afternoon.

United Kingdom workspace interiors manufacturer and distributor Dynamic Office Solutions expects to end the year on a high note after a significant investment in its warehouse facilities and e-commerce. "I am interested in working for a bank and focusing on going to college full-time, and I want to be able to afford a college education", he said.
