Lucasfilm and Disney have just announced the upcoming availability of Star Wars: Rivals, the "first real-time Star Wars competitive action shooter for mobile devices".

"Highlighting legendary clashes, the character roster is an all-star lineup spanning multiple eras of Star Wars, allowing players to experience the saga's most famous conflicts", Lucasfilm and Disney said in a post published on the official "Star Wars" website. Several real-time combat arenas are available to play in Star Wars: Rivals, the companies say, and characters (called Heroes) can be swapped in and out during the battle.

Preregister on Android at the Google Play store or download it from the App Store if you're on iOS. The game also features some of the new characters that Disney introduced in "The Force Awakens" and "Rogue One", like Finn, Captain Phasma, Jyn Erson and Director Krennic.

Players will battle it out in familiar surroundings like the Death Star and Jakku. We've seen mentions of new characters like Finn and Phasma, as well as classics like Han, Luke, Leia, Vader, and Chewie from the original. Defeat rivals in combat to gain extra Battle Points and win faster as you ascend the leaderboards. Players can destroy their opponents with powerful weapons such as Chewbacca's bowcaster, Han Solo's DL-44 blaster pistol, and Boba Fett's EE-3 carbine rifle. Apparently, the rarer a hero is, the better will perform in the arenas. These include Bespin, Scarif, Jakku, and Death Star.

Star Wars: Rivals is now up for pre-registration on Google Play (Android) and has been soft-launched in the Philippines App Store (iOS). Early registration gets Android users access to Death Troopers, the elite fighters in black armor from Rogue One.

Obviously, the game will be available for free, but it will feature in-app purchases that cost real money from $4.99 to $99.99.
