According to THR, Warner Bros. will release the super movie on April 5, 2019 where it now has no competition. Currently, there's no strong competition for "Shazam!" in that month with Paramount's "Pet Sematary" set to open a week after the DC movie.

Zachary Levi will play the role of the titular character.

WB also announced that the untitled DC movie that was dated for this summer, July 27, is now off the calendar.

The name Shazam is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury.

The story sees young Billy Batson, played by Asher Angel, transformed into the super hero Captain Marvel (Levi) when he yells the magic word, "Shazam!".

Sandberg has been active on social media teasing pre-production of the movie which films soon in Toronto.

David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) will direct from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Peter Safran is producing, with filming planned for this year.

Despite all of the recent executive shake-ups at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, the studios are moving ahead with the long-in-development Shazam! movie, starring Zachary Levi from Chuck as the title character. "She's a mom", he gushed.
