Oregon Ducks Take To The Road, Face Upstart Arizona State

Arizona State wasn't able to take advantage of a big crowd of 13,693 at Wells Fargo Arena, the largest attendance number it's had since 2010.

Five players are averaging at least 10.3 points per game for Arizona, they are: Tra Holder (21.4), Evans II (16.9), Kodi Justice (13.7), Romello White (12.8) and Remy Martin (10.3) per game.

Arizona ranks 225th in three pointers attempted per game (18.6) while Oregon State ranks 236th (18.0).

OR has that at every position, and that plus a slow pace was what swung the game in favor of the Ducks in a 76-72 upset loss for the Sun Devils on Thursday.

After playing its first three Pac-12 games either at home or just down the road in Corvallis, the Ducks hit the road Thursday night and pulled off a major upset - a 76-72 win at No. 11 Arizona State.

Arizona senior point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright, who's averaging 7.6 points per game and a team-high 4.9 assists, certainly isn't underestimating the Beavers, especially after their 80-77 loss to Colorado in Boulder last Saturday. It was a close game the rest of the half. Head Coach Dana Altman had the team focused in practice earlier this week as OR had what he said was the best practice so far this season. Seth Berger played well again with four points, on 2-for-3 shooting, and six rebounds.

"Thought we had opportunities in the first half two different times to really take hold of the game", Hurley said.

Wooten had only 4 points and a rebound in 11 minutes of action, picking up 3 first-half fouls and then sitting for good after getting his fourth with 13:03 left in the game.

The focus was Offense and passing the ball as well as Defensively working on Rebounding, which has been the theme for the Ducks since Altman joined the program. The Beaves made 6 of 14 tries from beyond the arc. In that one, Arizona's Deandre Ayton put up 26 points.

"If we get those rebounds, we have a chance to push", Hurley said of the offensive rebounds for OR contributing to the lack of transition looks for his team.

The Beavers' average margin of victory in their last five games has been 6.2, down from 6.7 for the season.

But OSU led for the entire first half and the first three minutes of the second half before the leads began to alternate.

OR had their best run in the 1st Half with 1:32 on the clock.

"I just didn't, you know, maybe manage possessions better with the lead", Hurley said.

Tres Tinkle had 10 points and four rebounds to lead the Beavers, who shot 34.5 percent but outrebounded the Wildcats 18-17 and had two fewer turnovers. OR worked on the inside and found ways to carve up the Sun Devils.
