OR knocks off No 11 Arizona State

Missoula Hellgate graduate Tres Tinkle scored 18 points and Stephen Thompson Jr. had 14 for the Beavers (10-6, 2-2), who have won just once in Tucson in the last 35 years (2010).

Maybe all OR needed to get back on track was to get out of the state.

OR has that at every position, and that plus a slow pace was what swung the game in favor of the Ducks in a 76-72 upset loss for the Sun Devils on Thursday.

Arizona's first half against Oregon State could be compared to watching paint dry.

The great equalizer, as always, is on the defensive end-with the Beavers ranking first in the Pac 12 in points allowed (68.6).

"Three or four seconds they got a shot up, make or miss they're back on the glass". Defensively, Arizona State yields 74.1 points against the opposing teams. Making free throws was one of Colorado's biggest advantages. Pritchard put the game on ice with two free throws in the closing moments that put the game out of reach for the Sun Devils.

The Beavers (10-5, 2-1 Pac-12) have wins over both the Ducks and Buffaloes and suffered their only conference defeat in a 2-point loss to Utah.

Expect the Wildcats to play hard against OR (11-5, 1-2), which has lost two of three Pac-12 games after a strong nonconference run.

"Thought we had opportunities in the first half two different times to really take hold of the game", Hurley said. "I told them that".

Deandre Ayton had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Rawle Alkins scored 11 points, nine in the second half, for the Wildcats (13-4, 3-1 Pac-12), coming off a loss Saturday at Colorado.

"Transition defense is going to be big with them and then keeping them out of the paint", OR sophomore Keith Smith said.

This sounds easy, but it's usually not because of the speed that defenses can recover. Justice also said that he felt they were playing 45 seconds worth of defense because of the Ducks offensive rebounding.

That came through Oregon's guards, sophomore Payton Pritchard and junior Elijah Brown, who had 18 points apiece while the floor general Pritchard added six assists.

Williams 2-4 0-1 4, Tillie 7-14 1-2 15, Melson 8-15 0-0 23, Norvell 1-4 0-0 3, Perkins 5-9 0-0 13, Hachimura 8-10 4-5 20, Kispert 3-10 0-0 8, Jones 2-3 1-1 5, Larsen 3-3 0-2 6, Pete 1-3 0-0 2, Wade 1-3 0-0 2, Beach 0-0 2-2 2.

When asked of where the game got away, Justice answered with the backboard.

Miller, Alkins and Trier spoke in the postgame press conference after the game, watch what they had to say.

"It was all of it, honestly".

"I'm happy for him", Few said.

"You think of teams like Washington State and Oregon State".
