Bentley has revealed the Bentayga V8, the petrol-engined equal to the Bentayga Diesel, sitting below the W12-engined model.

The Bentayga V8's 2395kg kerb weight to the Diesel's 2506 and the W12's 2440kg means that efficiency is up, too, with stop-start technology contributing to claimed average fuel economy of 24.8mpg and Carbon dioxide emissions of 260g/km to the other cars' respective 35.8mpg and 210g/km and 21.6mpg and 296g/km.

Power is fed through an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel-drive, and the V8 petrol achieves 24.8mpg and emissions of 260g/km CO2.

The V8 Bentayga costs from £136,200 (the Bentayga Diesel is £135,800 and the W12 £167,200).

Bentayga V8 models should get a drop in curb weight over the W12 model, allowing the Bentayga to dance a little easier in traffic.

Developing 542bhp the Bentayga V8 is fitted with stop/start and a cylinder cut out device to aid economy giving the huge SUV a theoretical range of 464 miles with an 18.7 gallon fuel tank.

The petrol V8 model heralds the introduction of carbon-ceramic brakes for the first time on a Bentayga; Bentley claims that these are the most powerful ever fitted to one of its cars, and that the brake discs at the front are the largest ever fitted to a production auto at 440mm (17 inches).

The Bentayga comes with Bentley Dynamic Ride that uses a 48V electrical system to control the active roll setup that helps prevent much body roll through the corners.

The Bentley Bentayga will gain a third engine in its lineup: a V8 is making its way across the greater Volkswagen Automotive Group empire. The car's suspension can also be set at different heights to suit the driver's needs. The vehicle gets an eight-inch infotainment system that features a 60GB hard drive, while rear-seat passengers can make use of the new Bentley Entertainment Tablet if specified, which is a 10.2-inch Android tablet with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Since its introduction, the Bentley Bentayga has helped define the luxury SUV segment, offering customers the ultimate Grand Touring experience in class and comfort. It also offers an all-new 22-inch five-spoke wheel with black painted and polished finish. The Bentayga V8 boasts 15 interior colors and five color combinations that buyers can add this stylish leather to if they choose. On the inside, however, there are some additions over the W12 such as glossy carbon fibre trims all around, wooden insert on steering wheel and the first-ever cricket-ball leather upholstery.
