With new director Rian Johnson stepping in for the middle entry of this new trilogy, the immediate challenge comes from not only meeting the same level of reminiscence to past Star Wars movies but also making sure the story is being told in a fresh and exciting way that generates momentum prior to the inevitable conclusion in Episode IX.

Another cool detail for fans is that the hologram of Princess Leia that R2-D2 plays in an effort to convince Luke Skywalker to change his mind about staying in isolation was not recreated from scratch. Tourism Ireland has been taking every opportunity to capitalise on the publicity around the film - and, in fact, our two previous Star Wars films, released in December, have been collectively viewed by 4 million people so far. As numerous trailers and even the title of the movie suggest, it was presumed that Episode VIII would showcase jedi master Skywalker passing on his wisdom and guidance to Rey.

It's a fair point. It's not until the climax of the movie that we see him reconnect to it, as he projects his presence to Crait to buy the troubled Resistance a chance to escape. We felt like we were home. The idea that you can pull an object to your hand probably makes sense once you learn you can use the Force to strangle somebody, but there was no reason to believe you could use the Force to strangle somebody until we saw Darth Vader do it.

We don't know much else about "Episode IX". Though, no mention has been made yet about what actually happened to Luke's green lightsaber. If a Jedi can make somebody hear something that isn't there, as Obi-Wan does while shutting down the tractor beam in the first film, can a Jedi also make somebody see something that isn't there? Here's what Rian Johnson had to say about it in a recent interview.

In Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.
