HBO Fahrenheit 451 Trailer

So says Michael Shannon's Beatty in an extended trailer for HBO's Fahrenheit 451 film adaptation, which aired during the project's TV Critics' Association press tour panel.

Yes, there isn't much to the actual teaser, but thanks to THR we have some looks at the star-studded main cast of the film in Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Fruitvale Station), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Man of Steel), and Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, The Mummy).

In the movie, Michael B. Jordan plays Guy Montag, a fireman who suddenly becomes disillusioned with his role of censoring writing and destroying knowledge after he meets a rebellious young girl.

Michael Shannon is playing Montag's fire chief Beatty, the villain of the story. In this world, books are outlawed to prevent the spread of subversive ideas.

The firemen are aided by robotic "hounds", that can sniff out book lovers and pursue them should they flee, injecting a tranquilizer with their bites. So it makes sense HBO is bringing us this new adaptation of Ray Bradbury's iconic work. A menacing fireman in a black helmet holds a flamethrower. Bahrani was instantly drawn to the material's relevance to our modern times, even with the advent of the internet since the source material was written-which certainly changes how you have to navigate the issues held within the text.

The movie script for "Fahrenheit 451" has something like stage directions, but it's more like narration, Cherne said.

With its themes of mind control via media, Fahrenheit 451 arguably seems more relevant today than when first published in 1953. "What is still in the future, I hope, is this attitude toward knowledge and books and the total absorption of people in their screens and the authoritarian militaristic nature of the state".

The teaser highlights the most vivid part of the novel, showing a burning copy of Crime and Punishment that's dropped onto a pile of other controversial books, which is set on fire by a firefighter yielding a flamethrower.
