Five Real Madrid players in UEFA '2017 team of the year'

If so, then the UEFA.com Fans' Team of the Year 2017 is what really counts with a record (and remarkable) 8.77 million votes cast, an increase of 1.6 million over 2016. UEFA picked its all-star team after 8.8 million votes.

UEFA announced Thursday a team of 11 players deemed by fans as the best performers of 2017.

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo featured in 70% of teams and teammate Sergio Ramos was the most popular pick, appearing in 73.3% of sides. Cristiano Ronaldo made his 12 appearance in the team, alongside five other Real Madrid players.

In goal is Gianluigi Buffon with a back four of Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos, Giorgio Chiellini and Marcelo.

Toni Kroos (Real Madrid): 43.3%.

The team does, however, include the English top-flight duo of Chelsea midfielder Hazard and Manchester City playmaker De Bruyne, while Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are unsurprising inclusions in the European XI. "There are two newcomers in the line-up - Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard, who have the honour of being the first Belgians to be represented in the Fans' Team of the Year". Despite not participating in last year's Champions League, Hazard racked up three goals and two assists in six group matches at the tail end of 2017.

Barcelona and Italian champions Juventus had a total of 5 nominees each, while Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have 4 players in the Team of the Year shortlist.
