Boat with around 40 children capsizes, massive rescue operation launched

Four feared dead after a boat with 40 school children on board capsizes 2 nautical miles from the sea shore in Dahanu in Maharashtra. "Rescue teams from other departments are also there".

The students of KL Ponda school, all from Class 11 and Class 12, in Dahanu were at the beach for a picnic.

The Indian Coast Guard has diverted ships and pressed an aircraft and two choppers into rescue operations, the official said. Search operations for the remaining are underway.

According to the information given by the District collector Prashant Narnaware to the PTI, the boat was capsized today in morning off the Dahanu coast. Rescue operations are underway to locate the missing.

The boat was capsized due to overcrowding and the boat tilted on one side while the children were having fun.
