Yemen Claims a New SAM Scored Recent Hits on Saudi Fighter Jets

"In a blatant violation of worldwide law, the Iranian-Houthi militia on Saturday attempted an attack by three remote-controlled drone boats, targeting a Saudi oil tanker and threatening to disrupt navigation in Bab El-Mandeb strait", Colonel Turki Al-Maliki.

The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia said it had thwarted an attack on a Saudi oil tanker over the weekend by the Houthis.

. And now the rebels are threatening to block the Red Sea shipping lane if the coalition keeps pushing towards the western port city of Hodeidah. The Bab al-Mandab Strait is the southern entrance to the Red Sea.

Maliki spoke after the rebels on Monday threatened to cut off Red Sea traffic unless Saudi Arabia and its allies lifted a blockade on Yemen's ports and main worldwide airport.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in the Yemen war in March 2015 to try to restore President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi to power after the Houthis, backed by Saleh's supporters, forced him into exile. The coalition, which says it takes all precautions to minimize civilian casualties, could not be reached for comment.

The war has killed more than 10,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, and pushed the country to the brink of mass starvation.

Yemen was highly dependent on food imports even before 2015, and the United Nations has warned the country now stands on the brink of starvation.
