These are smaller than LEDs used in current TVs, and are said to be more power efficient.

Ever the videophile, Andru is also keeping his eye on the new TVs being announced, including a giant, 146-inch TV from Samsung called simply The Wall. As the world's first consumer modular MicroLED television, "The Wall" represents another breakthrough.

The 12-foot, 2-inch screen is almost twice the size of most big screen sets on the market and features a new technology called "microLED". The microLED technology is different from LED and OLED technologies.

"It can transform into any size, and delivers incredible brightness, color gamut, color volume and black levels. We're excited about this next step along our road map to the future of screen technology", president of visual display business Jonghee Han added. Samsung says the adaptability is possible through MicroLED, which are smaller than LEDs and self-sufficient as a light source.

However, unlike OLED, the Micro LED tech of the gargantuan Wall TV doesn't have quite so many limitations on peak brightness. Samsung has broken through the problems faced by the industry when it comes to such large screen sizes. At least based on how Samsung described The Wall, you (or an installer) could very well be able to change the size of your set on the fly.

Sony's LSPX-A1 Projector could sting your pocket when it is released shortly with a price tag of $US30,000, but the coffee table-shaped machine can create a 120-inch projection, and features six speakers, including two glass tubes which act as tweeters for clear sound.
