Last month, it was reported that HTC is planning to launch just a handful of smartphones this year as it will focus on high-end and mid-range models. In the post, the company has asked HTC fans to save the date for January 15 and has also asked them to keep their "Eye" open. Which hints at an HTC EYE device.

Towards the end of 2017, we learnt about the forthcoming HTC U11 EYEs thanks to reliable leaker Evan Blass. It is expected to be priced at 3,299 yuan ($510) and will be offered in Black, Silver and Red colours. Judging by the press renders, the EYEs has a 5.99-inch Super LCD3 Full HD+ screen (2160 x 1080) with a 18:9 aspect ratio, rounded corners, and thin top and front bezels. It should be noted that One M8 was HTC's one and only dual camera smartphone and it was launched back in 2014. The photos he has leaked photos also reveal a dual selfie camera setup on the U11 EYEs. The processor that powers the phone is Snapdragon 652 octa-core.

HTC previously used the Eye branding for the Desire Eye, which had a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, but with the plural of Eyes it was thought the phone would come with two cameras instead. Its large 3,930mAh battery charges via USB-C with IP67 water and dust protection.

The handset will also come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of included storage, if you need some extra storage it will come with a microSD card slot for expansion. The phone's display also suggests a launch on January 15.

The only downside though is the possibility that the device will launch with Android Nougat as opposed to the latest Android Oreo. Rumor has it the HTC U11 EYEs will be available in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, initially.
