The pair, whose engagement was confirmed last month, are tying the knot at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

William is president of the English Football Association, and May 19 is the date of the FA Cup final, one of the biggest English soccer games of the year.

The date breaks with tradition as royal weddings usually take place on a weekday - the Queen Wednesday on a Thursday and the Duke of Cambridge on a Friday.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry on May 19 in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace announced Friday, a date that falls on the eve of the Jewish festival of Shavuot. "Saturday 19 May promises to be a wonderful day with such a special royal occasion being followed by English football's showpiece event, The Emirates FA Cup Final".

The timing could be an issue for Harry's older brother Prince William, who is expected to be the best man at the wedding.

Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, announced their engagement late last month after about a year and a half together.

"We took it as a sign from the ginger gods that it was meant to be", Kelly said of Harry's wedding date.

Royal weddings are traditionally held on weekdays, but in a truly scandalous break from convention, Harry and Meghan Markle have chosen a Saturday. Since then, they've sat down for an extended interview about their relationship and began jointly carrying out some of Harry's official royal duties. Prince Charles married Princess Diana on a Wednesday, while Prince William married Kate Middleton on a Friday, and Queen Elizabeth married Prince Philip on a Thursday.
