"The light snow should pretty much come to an end by late morning, but may linger into the afternoon across northeast MA where some spotty freezing drizzle is also possible".

Forecasters said the unseasonably cold, snowy stretch dating back almost two weeks comes to an end today with a daytime high close to 40 degrees and chances for rain.

Wintry weather in the forecast?

Chances for rain showers continue with overnight lows remaining above freezing - in the high 30s. There is a chance of rain and snow and a low around 20 on Thursday night. The daytime high is expected to be near 39 degrees.

Southwest winds could gust as high as 40 miles per hour ahead of an approaching cold front.

Those making the Monday morning commute should be wary of light snowfall that will likely stick to cold and untreated surfaces, according to meteorologist Christina Speciale of the National Weather Service in Albany.

The National Weather Service said accumulation would be limited to a coating to an inch, with snow changing to rain near the shore.

"It can still make for unsafe travel conditions despite it being a coating", she said.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for central and northern parts of New Jersey ahead of what forecasters say could be a light mix of freezing rain and snow Sunday night.
