An entire generation of young Netflix-watchers is about to find out why we add "-gate" to the end of scandals.

Deadline reports that the project has "Bridge of Spies" writer Matt Charman partnering with George Clooney and Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov.

Netflix has ordered the concept from a crew of Hollywood players who know their way around a political scandal story.

The actor is developing an eight-part Netflix series on the scandal that took down President Richard Nixon, his representative told CNNMoney Friday.

The potential series will be produced by studio Sonar Entertainment, which past year inked a first-look deal with Smokehouse.

Following this event, subsequent investigations revealed a cover-up which was initiated by high-ranking officials of the White House, which eventually forced President Nixon's resignation in 1974. However, it's notable that he's making a series for Netflix. So it will be interesting to see which series, Watergate or Catch-22 will win the coveted spot of "first Clooney TV project to air since E.R". Sources say that the series will focus on the chief figures wrapped up in the scandal.
