Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has replaced his long-time teammate at the helm of affairs.

"He was particularly frustrated with the board allowing Shakib Al Hasan to rest during the Test series against South Africa", Nazmul told reporters after the meeting with Hathurusingha. His first Test as captain was against West Indies in 2009 before leading the side for seven more matches in the first half of 2010, and one more Test in August 2011 against Zimbabwe.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan related these decisions immediately after the board meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium this evening. "We have made a decision to change the Test captain", he said. We want the best batting service from Mushfiqur.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board are yet to name a new coach after Chandika Hathurusingha resigned from his post to shift his base to Sri Lanka, where he will take charge as head coach on December 20. "We want to give him some time to relax and moreover he should concentrate on his batting", he added.

After beginning his Test captaincy on a winning note, Shakib had a rough time as he oversaw chastening defeats in the eight other matches in his leadership career.

With pressure mounting on him from various quarters, Mushfiqur's sacking has come on expected lines.

There were calls for a change after the team's dismal performance on the tour of South Africa where they failed to register a single victory. Interestingly, Shakib himself was unavailable for that particular series after he had ostensibly cited workload concerns.

Shakib Al Hasan has been named Bangladesh's new Test captain, and the upcoming Sri Lanka tour will be his first assignment in the new role.

Mahmudullah has been named Shakib's deputy, replacing Tamim Iqbal as the vice-captain.
