Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind current leaders Manchester City.

Asked by BT Sport if he had played better, he said: "It's a win".

David De Gea made 14 saves against Arsenal, equaling the record for the most stops in a Premier League match.

De Gea saved twice in quick succession from Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac shortly before halftime and somehow kept out United striker Romelu Lukaku's miskick when trying to clear from a corner.

"It was phenomenal game". "I didn't see the tackle", Mourinho said. "I believe at the back, we didn't start well at all and we put ourselves in a very hard position".

But the win was far from routine even though early goals from Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard put United 2-0 up at the Emirates Stadium as soon as the 11th minute. The Portuguese is renowned for encouraging the home side to have more of the ball when his teams play away games and hitting the opposition on the counter attack is exactly what he wanted. I have to say we deserve all the great words.

However, there have been suggestions Man United could appeal the decision and the respective three-game ban in an attempt to have Pogba back in the frame for City.

"I think it was a fantastic game", Mourinho, whose United sides had managed only one goal in their previous seven away to Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, told reporters.

"We had not enough dictating our strength in fight from the start and then despite that we had 33 shots on goal against Man Utd and their goalkeeper was absolutely outstanding. But you can not make the mistakes we made at the beginning". We produced excellent quality, but were not decisive enough. "I just know that Paul is frustrated and a bit disappointed with his (France) colleague (Laurent Koscielny) for his reaction because everyone knows Paul is a clean player and it was not his intention".
