LOS ANGELES - The son of former Democratic Rep. John Conyers who's a possible candidate for his father's vacated U.S. House seat was arrested in February in Los Angeles after his girlfriend told police he body-slammed and then stabbed her during an argument, but prosecutors declined to bring charges.

Both Conyers III and his girlfriend called the police following the altercation, according to NBC.

Conyers reportedly accused his girlfriend of cheating on him after going through her computer, according to the Los Angeles County police report.

Conyers III will likely have competition in the Democratic primary in Detroit as MI state Sen.

The girlfriend added that when she attempted to call the police, Conyers took her phone and "chased" her to the kitchen.

John Conyers III, the son of embattled Democratic Rep. John Conyers of MI, was arrested under suspicion of domestic abuse in Los Angeles but was not charged, NBC News reported on Wednesday. He allegedly body slammed her on the bed and floor, where he pinned her down and spit on her. The alleged victim was not named in the prosecutors' document. After she grabbed a knife and told him to leave, she said he took the knife and swung it at her, cutting her arm in the process.

- When Congressman John Conyers announced his retirement Tuesday, he endorsed his 27-year-old son to take his seat. He claimed she was the instigator, using drugs, trying to kick him out of the residence, getting into a shoving match with him, and threatening him with a knife.

He was taken into custody and released on $50,000 bail.

"I have a great family here and especially in my oldest boy, John Conyers III, who, incidentally, I endorse to replace me in my seat in Congress", the disgraced politician said.

The younger Conyers said he would make a decision 'once I have taken the time to thoroughly listen to our community'.

Conyers III did not immediately respond to a Law&Crime request for comment. His bio also says he is a partner in a Detroit-based hedge fund and graduate of Morehouse.

The only visible injury on the alleged victim, Conyers III's girlfriend who was unnamed in the records, was a small stab wound to her lower bicep, NBC reports.

It seems Rep. John Conyers' son and appointed successor may face some challenges convincing voters he's the right man for the job.
