The #SkirballFire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. near Mulholland Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. All homes between Mulholland Drive to the north, Sunset Boulevard to the south, Roscomare Road to the east and the 405 to the west have been told to evacuate. Many were evacuated from the nearby homes, including Chelsea Handler.

Fires will burn intensely and be uncontrollable throughout the region from Ventura to San Diego counties, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

"This has only just begun", said Terrazas.

The 405 has now been closed as a precaution, but that was after thousands of Bel-Air residents drove right beside the inferno on Wednesday evening. "It looks like it is getting pummeled".

The house, featured recently in Los Angeles Magazine, was in "immediate danger" he said. The northbound side of the 405 was shut down about 5 a.m.

Firefighters work to save a home along Linda Flora Drive in Bel-Air.

The fire is just under five miles away from UCLA, which chose to cancel classes for the day. Kim said, "I pray everyone in Los Angeles is safe from these fires and THANK YOU to all of the fire fighters working so hard to keep everyone safe!"

The fire led to the closure of multiple freeways, include the very congested 405. The Skirball Fire is in mostly residential areas causing evacuation, and UCLA students were given the option to go to class.

Most people living in the hills of Los Angeles knew what to do, she said, but it was an especially trying time for people new to the area.

The fast-moving, wind-driven wildfire continued to rage through the city of Ventura on Tuesday evening, jumping Highway 33 and burning through oil fields before crossing the 101 Freeway into Solimar Beach, authorities said.
