Airtel rolls out Rs 1649 smartphone with Intex to take on JioPhone

OEMs are now focused on offering affordable smartphones and feature phones with 4G LTE support to take advantage of JioPhone's demand and carriers are partnering with manufacturers to do the same. Similarly, the Intex Aqua A3 comes with an MRP of 6,649 and an MOP of Rs 5,879.

Coming to the newly launched 4G smartphones under the Airtel, Intex partnership - Aqua Lions N1 is actually available at a price tag of Rs 3,799 - this is the market price of the phone. If the customer is not interested in the bundled plan, then he has to recharge for ₹3000 for the first 18 months and ₹3000 for the next 18 months to get similar cashback benefits. The other specs include 16GB of expandable storage, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP selfie shooter with an LED flash, VoLTE and a 2,450mAh battery.

As far as the features are concerned, the Intex Aqua Lions N1 comes with a 4-inch WVGA display, and boots Android 7.0 Nougat. To get a JioPhone, the customers need to make a down payment of Rs 1,500 - however, if the customer decides to return back the JioPhone to the company, Jio will refund the entire Rs 1500 to the customers, but that's only after 3 years of using the phone.

If the customers do not want to recharge with Rs. 169 plan, they have the flexibility of doing recharges of any denomination.

The Intex Aqua A4 comes at an effective price of Rs1,999 and the Intex Aqua S3, for Rs4,379. The phone comes with a 4.00-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 pixels by 800 pixels. As per the specifications, the Aqua A4 comes with 1GB RAM and an 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB. It is backed by a 1,400mAh battery. In its statement, Airtel said the Intex Aqua LIONS N1 handset (market price of Rs 3,799) has a 4-inch screen, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable up to 128GB) and 2MP rear and VGA front camera. It has a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front shooter. The Aqua S3 gets the biggest battery among the lot, which is a 2450 mAh pack.

All devices are Android powered and offer access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, "We are delighted to have Intex on board as a partner and their brand familiarity plus distribution reach will add to our affordable smartphone proposition and offer more choice to our customers".

Aqua LIONS N1, Aqua A4 and Aqua S3 are originally priced at Rs 3,799, Rs 4999 and Rs 6649 respectively.

Airtel on Tuesday announced a partnership with Intex to bundle data and calling benefits with select smartphones.
