West Ham took a shock first-half lead at the Emirates Stadium, but goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva ensured that City would re-open an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

It was the third match in a row that City have come up with a late victor and it put them on 43 points from 15 matches, eight ahead of Manchester United, whom they play next weekend.

Corden, host of The Late Late Show, has been a constant critic of his beloved West Ham this season.

After second-placed Manchester United had beaten Arsenal on Saturday, Pep Guardiola's side were under pressure to register their 13th league win on the trot, but the runaway leaders were made to work extremely hard on Sunday.

But City boss Pep Guardiola insists beating the Hammers at the Etihad is anything but "easy". I was not here in that period - but of course you need to have this. I think what happened, the opponent doesn't want to play.

Manchester City head to Old Trafford next week searching for a 14th consecutive Premier League win which would break a 125-year top-flight record (set by Preston and Sunderland in 1891-92).

Guardiola has chose to err on the side of caution by leaving Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho out of the game ahead of the Manchester derby, with both players one yellow card away from suspension. I understand that and I am not judging them, but it is hard. "It is the same Chelsea as last season - Liverpool are there, too".

Guardiola - who admitted Sergio Aguero's form has dipped significantly since his auto crash in Amsterdam - would not be drawn on Paul Pogba publicly wishing injuries on his City rivals. I am pretty sure he doesn't want other players to get injured, ' he said.

"We have to respect them and the best respect to them is to be serious and play the strongest team possible".
