'The Voice' Singer Responds to Accusations of Sexually Assaulting Friend at Sleepover

Timothy Heller, the singer's former friend and fellow musician, published allegations against Martinez on Twitter on Monday night (04Dec17) recounting a two-night sleepover they had an unspecified number of years ago.

Martinez herself has yet to respond to the allegations by Heller - in general she is not extremely active on social media, with the most-recent post from her Twitter coming in late September. One night, during a sleepover, the singer allegedly repeatedly asked the victim about her sexual history and begged "her to sleep with her".

Singer Melanie Martinez, who rose to fame after appearing at NBC's "The Voice", has been accused of rape by her former friend.

She wrote: "I am horrified and saddened by the statements and story told by Timothy Heller". I had a boyfriend at this time, and she knew that... We tried to help each other. "We both had pain in dealing with our individual demons... but I truly felt we were trying to lift each other up". She also claimed that Timothy "never said no to what [they] chose to do together". "I didn't scream at her, I didn't force her off of me, 1, because I loved her. 2, because I just wanted it to be over".

"The power she had over me, grew into me having a very hard time saying no to her", she wrote.

It is my obligation to believe Timothy's tragic story, to assume that my once beloved Melanie is a rapist, and I just want to express all my public support for Ms. Heller.

"I said no. For two nights straight. That's what happened. The bottom line that I need to always remind myself is that: I said no", Heller wrote. "The thought of accepting that my best friend raped me seems insane", Heller wrote.

Heller's story comes within the midst of the #MeToo movement in which many women and men have expressed stories about sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.

Describing the previous friendship as "toxic", she alleges The Voice star "molested" and "raped" her. I said no, repeatedly.

Heller continued by claiming Martinez performed oral sex on her and penetrated her with a sex toy without her consent.

"Girls can rape girls".

Early Tuesday morning (Dec. 5) Martinez wrote back, categorically denying Heller's claim.

Heller says Martinez then began pleading with her to touch other body parts, including her breasts, which Heller allowed, hoping it would make her stop.

"Silence doesn't equal consent", she concluded.
