"It will be the best bet for PDP if Atiku wins the presidential ticket of the party because there is no better political tactician or strategist in the PDP than Atiku", he said.

Chairman of PDP national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who made this known while inaugurating the convention planning committee in Abuja, yesterday said that the party is committed to adhering strictly to its rules for the convention.

When he alighted from his black Mercedes Benz at the entrance of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), Hall he waved continuously to acknowledge cheers from his supporters and other party faithful who had waited to receive him.

"We are glad he has returned to the party which gave him the opportunity to vie for positions both as a governor and as a vice-president".

He allayed the fears of party members on the possibility of imposing a presidential candidate on them in 2019, saying "party members reserve the right to give mandate to anyone they wish to give their mandate to".

The PDP chairman expressed satisfaction with yesterday's judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ekiti which nullified the judgment of a High Court that would have affected the smooth conduct of Saturday elective convention.

"This is another milestone recorded by the current leadership of our party in its quest to reconcile, rebuild and restructure the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections and beyond".

"Anyone who is desirous of a return to the era of abundance and freedom under the PDP administration is welcome".

In his response, the chairman of the convention planning committee, Governor Okowa, assured that the "electoral process will be free, fair and credible".

"PDP men and women are free to pursue whatever aspirations they have".

Just as the PDP was putting the finishing touches to its convention, its state chapter in Taraba consolidated its position in the state, when no fewer than 7,000 members of the APC defected to the party in Gassol Local Government Area at the weekend.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Abuja, Ojo, who is also a security expert, said he would campaign for the Wazirin Adamawa if he came out to run for president. I want to urge aspirants to the various positions to please keep their campaigners away from the convention venue and we believe all campaigns would have stopped by Friday.

"I will not expect any aspirant, especially presidential aspirants to bring their campaign posters, campaigners, men or women to the venue because it will not be allowed. I want to urge them to cooperate with us as a committee".

"I believe there will be an appropriate convention for that".
