Over 20 people on the bus were taken to area hospitals, including the driver.

Officials said the child who died was sitting in the front of the bus on the right side, the area that felt the worst impact. According to officials, the bus was on its way to Taylor's Creek Elementary School in Hinesville.

The bus was on its morning pick-up route when it crashed in Liberty County, said Mike Hodges, the county's public safety director.

"The State Patrol said the bus driver lost control, drove into a ditch and slammed into a tree". The crash is still under investigation.

It was a single-vehicle crash, troopers said. The children were transported to Liberty Regional and Winn-Army Hospitals.

Georgia State Patrol Officers are investigating the accident.

The Liberty County School System asks the community to join them in continued thoughts, prayers and support for all individuals affected by today's accident.
