Speaking to five branches of the military serving overseas via satellite from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump highlighted how the U.S. military is "really winning" since he took office.

Trump, as ever, did get a little partisan in his remarks - complete with the requisite criticism of "the previous administration". "We want to let you win", Trump said, referencing the Obama administration.

"We're being talked about again as an armed forces".

Before, he says, "They weren't letting you win".

The President is spending Thanksgiving at his resort in West Palm Beach, and he tweeted earlier Thursday morning that he will be visiting the Coast Guard Quarters in Florida later in the day. "Very, very special people".

He tweeted before the call that he would be speaking to soldiers in Afghanistan, Iraq, on the USS Monterey, and in Turkey and Bahrain.

He says everyone has been talking about the progress that has been made in Afghanistan in recent months.

It is that notion of the holiday, perhaps, why many people might find it jarring on Thursday morning by how President Donald Trump offered the nation a Happy Thanksgiving in the form of a tweet in which he vowed to "build the WALL" created to keep future refugees and immigrants out of the country.

Mr Trump described the troops as "very, very special people" to him and everyone else in the U.S. during the conference call from his private club in Palm Beach, Florida.

President Donald Trump spent part of his Thanksgiving morning on a video conference call with representatives of the various branches of the Armed Forces.
