It is a hope and joy that is shared by both those attending and the dozens of volunteers that make the event a success. The church usually sees around 40-60 people in terms of turnout, said David Nofziger. This year, the event begins at 10 a.m.

"We will have a short worship service in the auditorium", he said. "It will be a little bit of music and a short devotional before the meal to help us remember why we are gathering. It's not just to eat".

"There are a lot of people in the area that really don't have family nearby or a place to go".

Luckemeyer said the church was expecting about 300 people to attend this year's meal. That is what the folks at the Hilltop Church of Christ in El Sobrante call the weekend before the holiday when they prepare thousands of meals for people in their community.

Volunteers from around ME such as Chanelle Rose have come together to put the event together.

"I think some people think that it's all for people who can't afford it but it's not". Volunteers are needed to help put this dinner on.

"As many as I can get", Tesnow says with a chuckle. "We have to have people on the serving line, in the kitchen, and cleaning up".

At a glance, the Ontario dinner has received more than 100 donations including 28 turkeys and 24 hams, all of which have already been sent off to be cooked for the big day.

Every year a church group from El Sobrante offers a Thanksgiving meal to everyone in their community.

The meal will feature turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Luckemeyer said his parents thoroughly enjoyed helping out at the meal after flying in from out of town.

Volunteers will also be out on Thursday, delivering meals in Greene County.
