Zinedine Zidane does not know how long Sergio Ramos will be on the sidelines for after the Real Madrid captain suffered a suspected broken nose in the 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

The rugged defender attempted a first-half header at goal in the Liga encounter, and was inadvertently kicked in the face by Atleti defender Lucas Hernandez.

His nostrils were seen to have been plugged with cotton wool, while his nose was visibly swollen.

The club carried out tests after the game and on Sunday confirmed in a communique on their website that "he has broken a bone in his nose" and that his state is "pending evolution".

Ramos is expected to miss Real's Champions League trip to APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday where a win will secure the European champions' place in the last 16. It is a fracture, for Sergio.

Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, said it was a "bad sign" that Ramos was unable to continue playing after half time. "Ask him, I don't know about these things".

"I did not see [Hernandez's challenge on Ramos], and will not comment", Zidane was quoted as saying by ESPN.
