Sarah Silverman's Response To Louis CK's Behavior Feels Authentic & Necessary

"One of my best friends of over 25 years, Louis C.K., masturbated in front of women", she said, adding that he "wielded his power with women" in ways that were troubling and sometimes made these women feel they had to leave the field of comedy entirely.

Silverman then explained that she could soften her sentiments with "heartwarming stories" of their friendship or how he's a loving father, but concludes that mentioning those things are "irrelevant now".

During her Hulu show named "I Love You, America" the American stand-up comedian, actress, producer, and the writer Sarah Silverman went blunt and questioned: "Can you love someone who did bad things?" So, I just keep asking myself, "Can you love someone who did bad things?"

Since the allegations surfaced, FX has cut all ties with the comedian and his series "Louie", with his upcoming film, "I Love You Daddy", also being dropped by distributor The Orchard.

If you've somehow missed it, last Thursday the New York Times ran a piece about the five women who have publicly accused C.K. of sexual harassment.

But Silverman has now posted a video of great discomfort - to herself and her fans.

Silverman said that she's "very angry for the women he wronged and that culture that enabled" CK's misconduct, but is also sad because he's her friend.

If you were waiting for Sarah Silverman to have her say about Louis C.K. and wondering if it was going to be worth it, don't worry, it is. It's good. It's like cutting out tumors - it's messy and it's complicated and it's gonna hurt, but it's necessary and we'll all be healthier for it. "They are victims. And they're victims because of something he did". Often, we want to believe the best in people, and, even when presented with damning evidence, it can be hard to reconcile who they are with who we wanted them to be.

Silverman's remarks come after her own sister, Laura Silverman, said on Twitter that C.K. had masturbated in front of her as well.

"Louis copped to it, and he copped to it late", Maron said.

'There was no way to justify it, no way to defend it, no way to apologize for him about it, no way to let him off the hook'.

I hope very much that Louis CK can do teshuva - to his victims, his daughters, and his fans.

"He's my friend, and it's a hard position to be in because I certainly can't condone anything he did", Maron said on his WTF podcast on Monday.

The 46-year-old comedian then jokes about addressing "the elephant masturbating in the room" and explains why speaking out has been so hard.
