It has been a rough second season for Washington Redskins running back Rob Kelley that has been marred by injuries. Defensive line Brandon Banks was waived, while defensive lineman Tavaris Barnes was released from the practice squad.

The Redskins signed running back Byron Marshall off Philadelphia's practice squad to take his place. Following his unfavorable diagnosis of a high-ankle sprain and a grade 1/2 MCL sprain in his knee on Monday, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told the press the injured rusher will miss an extended period and could even end up on the season-ending injured reserve list as a result. Foster's season ended last month because of a separated shoulder.

"By looking at him at Oklahoma and what we've seen from the little bit of him here, [he's] probably better as the game goes on", Gruden said.

This will shift the primary duties in the running game over to a shared Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine; meanwhile, Byron Marshall will provide depth at the position if needed. He has also recorded over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown twice this season.

Compton, the backup to Mason Foster, who is also on the injured reserve, suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot during the Vikings game. Third-year player Martrell Spaight will step into the middle linebacker role.

Reid, 25, joins the Redskins after spending time with both the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers during his four-year career.
