Indigo Partners nears deal for 400 Airbus jets

Airbus SE is nearing the biggest deal in its history, negotiating to sell 430 A320neo single-aisle planes valued at more than $40 billion to United States investor Indigo Partners, people familiar with the matter said.

The deal, a mix of A320neo-family orders and future commitments, would end Airbus's sales slump this year and give departing sales chief John Leahy one final triumph before he heads into retirement.

The order by Indigo Partners trumps the 2015 order for 250 single-aisle planes valued at $27 billion by Indian budget carrier IndiGo.

Airbus says that 146 of the aircraft will go to Wizz Air, 134 to Frontier Airlines, 80 to Volaris and 70 to JetSmart.

Airbus and Indigo Partners declined to comment. Even with a massive haul from Indigo, Airbus may not be done at the Dubai event.

They said the record order would include A320neos and A321neos, with the deal to be officially announced later on Wednesday at the Dubai Air Show.
