In fact, when CBFC member and the BJP's Uttar Bharatiya Morcha functionary Arjun Gupta joined those Rajput Karni Sainiks, even sending off a letter to Home Minister Rajnath Singh demanding that director Bhansali be charged with sedition for distorting history in the film, it was CBFC chief Joshi who not only publicly supported Bhansali's right to make a work of cinematic fiction but also the way the director had actually made.

The Censor Board of Film Certification must not certify Padmavati until filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali screens the movie for Hindu organisations and clears doubts about distortion of history, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has demanded. "Maharani Padmini is the revered mother of 125 crore Hindus in the world and her character assassination by a film is disrespect to the Hindu religion, its culture and glorious history", he said.He said that the song "Ghoomer" in the film's trailer is against tradition , As Reported By TOI.

It also submitted few aspects about the film and said, "During the ancient times, women born in noble Hindu families never used to dance before the society; on the contrary, they used to fight with swords and make enemy dance in the battle fields". He also urged that people should let Censor Board (CBFC) take the ultimate course of action.

Turning down Bhansali's clarification on objectionable scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, it asked the director to exhibit the film in the presence of the representatives of the Hindu organisations. "This dance was never performed by any queen or princess".

To portray Queen Padmavati, who had committed "Johar" (self-immolation) to protect her chastity, as dancing in public hurts Hindu sentiment.

A delegation of the HJS led by its spokesperson Satish Kochrekar handed over a memorandum of demands to CBFC official Raju Vaidya at his office in Mumbai.

Bhansali has already issued an appeal to clarify that there is no dream sequence between Deepikas Padmavati and Ranveers Khilji as claimed by Rajput groups. "Padmavati" stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in titular roles and is slated to release on December 1.
