The list of categories for The 2017 Game Awards is fairly long, covering everything from Best AR/VR Game and Best Game Direction to Most Anticipated Game and Games for Impact, which are titles that are particularly thought provoking with a "pro-social message".

Breath of the Wild hold six nominations each, both vying for the same award in three of the categories.

In fact, all five games up for the top Game of the Year prize are all only available on one format except for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds which itself is now only on PC but will be coming to Xbox One by the end of the year.

Destiny 2 is one of just four games that have the honor of being nominated in six different categories for this year's Game Awards, it was announced today.

Game of the Year - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn. It's a question asked and answered countless times, and one which The Game Awards will put to its jury and website visitors, with "Super Mario Odyssey", "Destiny 2", "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Horizon Zero Dawn" leading nominations.

New for 2017 is Best Chinese Game, an explicit overture to a worldwide audience as The Games Awards expands its reach.
