Are you ready for an Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Gary Dauberman will write the script, and Matt Kaplan will produce the highly-anticipated adaptation. And like all good '90s childhood nostalgia, it must be adapted into a film.

Apart from Dauberman, no additional producers, cast, or staff have been announced regarding the Are You Afraid of the Dark? adaptation. While Clarissa Explains It All awakened everyone's desires to fill their closets with all-neon clothing, Are You Afraid of the Dark awakened everyone's deep-seated fears of, well, everything really. I remember staying up late just to watch those group of kids tell stories that blurred the lines between story and reality. The creepy clowns of Are You Afraid of the Dark are probably a huge part of what ignited everyone's clown fears, too, so it's flawless that one of It " s writers will bring the spooky stories of the '90s to the big screen.

Here's hoping the movie is even half as creepy as this iconic intro.

Paramount Players is a new division at Paramount Pictures that is led by Awesomeness founder Brian Robbins and focuses on contemporary talent and properties for young audiences while drawing upon the vast resources of the Viacom brands. Are You Afraid of the Dark ran from 1992-96 and was later rebooted for a single season in 1999. It's already developing a Dora the Explorer film with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes producing. The network aired it as part of its "SNICK" lineup, which was a block of programming for adolescents that ran on Saturday nights.
